Insects onslaught in Tamenglong district is worsening by the day.
Reports said that this year�s harvest is going to be poor again although the district is yet to overcome the rodent menace.
The district has become a cursed district.
Calamities of different kinds are reeling one after another in the district.
Reports said that caterpillars have been eating up standing crops in the districts.
According to the Social Actions For Rural Environment and Economics Services (SAREEDS), caterpillars and another winged insects which the local people called as "Thangnang" have been feeding on the standing paddy plants and other crops.
SAREEDS project officer Johny Acham Gangmei informed NNN that the insects on large scale have been destroying the crops and as a result the harvest would not be good again this year too.
Last year rodents had devastated crops in the Tamenglong district.
Following the rodent menace various social organisations which include AMUCO, Tingkao Raguang Chapriak Phom, Zeliangrong Relief Committee headed by late Dr.Gailangam Kamei and churches and also district officers including TML DC T.Pamei had extended their best helps to feed the starving thousand souls in the district even using the means of helicopters to airlift the food stuff, said Johny Gangmei.
The SAREEDS officer also said that another famine is looming large in the district.
