Imphal, March 07 2017:
In view of BOSEM's Class X exam scheduled to commence from March 17, COHSEM's Class XII exam scheduled to begin from March 20 and CBSE's Class XII exam which is starting from March 9, the Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) has called upon the people to shorten the celebration of Yaoshang festival this year.
A statement issued by ASUK, Campaign for National Regeneration (CNR), Special Task Force commander K Deepak also appealed to restrict Thabal Chongba festivity to just five nights (March 12-16) .
Since Manipur/Kangleipak became an alleged colony of India, the socio-economic structures of the land have collapsed completely.
Now the people are uncannily dependent on others on all aspects and the society abounds with all kinds of issues and problems.
There is no governance and there is utter chaos in the society.
All the indigenous people are now facing an existential crisis, said ASUK.
It was with the primary objective of rescuing the indigenous people of the land that ASUK launched the CNR and education is the foremost priority of the campaign, it asserted.
All the people need to pay undivided attention to education sector.
Only a sound education system can produce productive students of high standards, added the outfit.
But a child must overcome a number of challenges to become a good student.
To overcome these challenges, there must be a conducive, disturbance-free atmosphere for students to pursue quality education.
Yaoshang festival has arrived even before the revelry that is associated with the State Assembly election has ended.
People of the land had a unique identity and they were known for their rich culture.
But all the indigenous cultures and traditions have been severely threatened or obliterated by many external forces in this age of globalization.
There is no defensive wall to protect the indigenous cultures, said ASUK.
Yaoshang festival is one festival which is not much related with religious rituals or offering of prayers.
It is more about merrymaking.
Yaoshang festival has been greatly influenced by external elements and it is no longer suited to the socio-economic condition of the land, added the statement.
No elements of decency or cultural refinement is seen in Yaoshang festival these days.
Games and sports are organised during Yaoshang festival but these sporting events have been severely diluted by addition of entertainment programmes.
It is now a big question whether Yaoshang sports have been contributing to grooming ideal discipline among young children generally associated with games or sports or are they leading to degradation of character.
It's time to ponder over these matters, it added.
