Imphal, October 04 2013 :
Alleging that Lilong Haoreibi College Principal Md Noorul Amin is involved in many graft practices, and demanding befitting action against the Principal, several Muslim organisations have decided to close the college apart from calling an indefinite general strike in Thoubal district with effect from 5 am of October 8 .
Speaking to media persons at Babupara this afternoon, All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) president Md Tarib Khan urged the Government to institute an enquiry against Noorul Amin and keep him under suspension until the enquiry is over.
Representatives of All Manipur Muslim Girls' Students Union, youth clubs of Lilong Ushoipokpi, Hangamthabi Youth Club, Chingkham Maya Development Organisation and the United Welfare Organisation were also present at the press meet.
Six months back, Associate Prof Md Khalilur Rahman was the Principal of Lilong Haoreibi College.
Associate Prof Noorul Amin replaced him after Khalilur was suspended.
The suspension order of Khalilur was revoked on September 28 and he was transferred to Imphal College.
The Government issued another order by which Noorul Amin was retained as Principal of Lilong Haoreibi College.
During the time of Khalilur as the college's Principal, UGC sanctioned Rs 45 lakh for construction of an indoor stadium and the stadium was completed up to 75 per cent before he was suspended and subsequently transferred away, Tarib Khan said.
However, Noorul Amin sent a representation to the UGC saying that no stadium was constructed.
As a result, UGC refused to sanction any more fund.
Admission fees collected from 1657 students of the college have been misappropriated instead of putting the money in the bank accounts opened in three banks in the name of the college, alleged the AMMSO president.
Noorul Amin, in collusion with Cashier Md Tahir Ali, appointed to five family members of Tahir in the administration section of the college.
Moreover, no funds were released for the students' union nor any extra curricular activities held in the college.
Tarib Khan alleged that Noorul Amin is a highly corrupted Principal.
Rather than listening to the woes and complaints of the students, Noorul Amin has been acting arrogant simply because be longs to the Chief Minister's home constituency.
In case the Government fails to take up necessary action against the alleged tainted Principal by October 7, an indefinite general strike would be imposed all over Thoubal district from 5 am of the next day, Tarib Khan said.
He also decried Agriculture Minister and local MLA Md Nasir Khan's silence on the issue.
Education Minister M Okendro should take responsibility for this fiasco and resign from his post on moral ground, Tarib asserted.
