Imphal, August 23 2022:
A mini truck loaded with two metric tons of black rice was flagged off for New Delhi from Sanjenthong today.
The consignment of black rice was flagged off after Qseal Agritech Private Limited, New Delhi and Chak- hao Poireiton Organic Producer Company Limited, a farmer producer company based at Sagoltongba signed a trade agreement yesterday.
Qseal is a business partner of Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd (SIMFED Ltd), which is a service provider company of MOVCDNER.
Speaking to media persons, Additional Agriculture Director Todinang Panmei said that SIMFED has agreed to procure 10 MT of black rice from Chakhao Poireiton Organic Producer Company Limited this year.
Saying that the two metric tonnes of black rice would be taken to New Del-hi via a train from Dimapur, he added that the initiative is being taken up to encourage the black rice growers of Manipur.
He also said that there is no lack of a market for black rice.
Senior consultant of SIMFED Ltd C Mohanty said that he is happy to work with the farmers in Manipur under MOVCDNER.
Saying that their objecting is to popularise black rice and sending 2 MT of black rice is only the first step, he added that SIMFED has many retail chains and networks in New Delhi.
SIMFED is planning to manufacture different value-added products from black rice, apart from branding it.
