4 day National conference on 'Indian National Movement and Tribal Freedom Fighters of Manipur' kicks off

A 4-Day National Conference on "Indian National Movement & Tribal Freedom Fighters of Manipur" in the context of proposed Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum kick off today at the Classic Hotel.
Letpao Haokip, Minister Tribal Affairs & Hills, V Vumlunmang, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (TA & Hills), Government of Manipur and Former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Meijinlung Kamson attended the programme as presidium members.
Minister Letpao Haokip thanked the Prime Minister for granting Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum to Manipur and for renaming Mount Harriet as Mount Manipur.
He also thanked the Prime Minister for giving a tribal President to the nation.
He also thanked the Chief Minister of Manipur who has been tirelessly working for the welfare of all sections of society in the State and for the wholehearted support given to Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum in the state.
V Vumlunmang, IAS spoke on length about the background, status and way forward with regards to setting up of the Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Luangkao village in Tamenglong District.
Hungyo Worshang, IAS, Director, Tribal Affairs and Hills/ Tribal Research Institute, Manipur in his keynote address stated that Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum is a very important project, an ambitious programme envisioned by the Prime Minister to pay tribute to the members of tribal communities who played key role in the freedom struggle of the nation but whose roles and contribution have not been remembered adequately or have been deliberately forgotten.
He added that Tribal Research Institute, Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills Manipur started research works to identify mass movements of tribals and prominent tribal freedom fighters from Manipur who fought against the Britishers during India's struggle for independence since October-November of 2016.The proposal of the State Government to set up state of the art Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum was approved by the National Level Committee (NLC) in
February, 2019 .
The State Cabinet decided for establishment of Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum at Luangkao Village in Tamenglong District which is a birth place of renowned freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu and named the Museum as "Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum".
Foundation Stone for setting up of Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum was laid on 22nd November, 2021 by Union Home and Cooperation Minister.
The Director stated that various eminent experts from different part of the country will be participating in the 4-Day National Conference.
He also stated that the content developed by the State Government will be vetted by the Regional Committee and then submitted to the National Level Committee for approval and added that, it is of utmost importance that the content developed for the museum should be free from any controversy in terms of narrative or nomenclature.
Hence, this Conference is being organized to concretize the content for the proposed Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum in Manipur.
He appealed to all the stakeholders to generously contribute towards successful conference so that this project of national importance can be completed within a short period of time.
The Inaugural Session and the first technical session of the 4- Day National Conference was participated by leaders from various tribal communities, civil society leaders, student leaders besides eminent scholars, academicians, and senior level officers.
The 4-Day National Conference is being organized by TRI Manipur, Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills, Manipur in collaboration with CSSEIP, Manipur University as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and supported by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.
