Social Welfare Minister calls for active participation of youths in cultural, traditional events

Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo has expressed discontent over the restricted participation when it comes to traditional and cultural events as compared to entertaining programmes like rock concerts where people gather in large numbers.
He made the above statement while speaking at the 12th Sheirengbashingee Numit and foundation day celebration of Sheirengbashingee Apunba Lup (SHAL), Manipur held at GM Hall today.
The Minister while lauding the organisers for organising such an event to honour the elders who have made remarkable contributions in different fields expressed dismay over less participation from the youths.

He maintained that when the era of these renowned personalities ends there will be none to replace them if the youths do not make timely efforts.
He further stressed on the need of reviving the indigenous practice of poetry reading session , story telling session etc to help in educating the youths of the rich cultural heritage of the State.
The Minister also called for cohesive efforts to safeguard the degrading traditions of the State.
During the programme, Lyricist of the year 2022 Award was presented to Laishram Nabachandra and Ngairangbam Munindra while Lalambung Imo was awarded with Singer of the year 2022 Award and Ghaneshwar Chingakham was awarded with the Music Composer of the year 2022 Award.
The members of SHAL were also felicitated during the event.
SHAL president Dr Sagolsem Ibungochouba Singh; Head of Program AIR Imphal, A Gitchandra Sharma; Senior Medical Officer, Health Services Manipur, Dr Naorem Rameshwar; Social workers, Konjengbam Dilip and Soraisam Ratan also attended the event as the presidium members.
