UNC bandh total

Senapati, June 17 2014:
The United Naga Council (UNC) sponsored 48 hours bandh crippled all the National Highways and inter-State highways except the Imphal-Churachandpur road today.
The district headquarters of Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and the subdivisional headquarters in these four districts witnessed normal activities being severely affected.
However, since the educational institutions were exempted from the purview of the bandh, students were seen going to their respective Sugnu and other Sub-Divisional headquarters roads were also blocked by the bandh supporters.
Chandel district headquarters looked deserted as vehicles were off the road and all the shops put the shutters down during the bandh.
Government offices recorded low attendance.
However, educational institutions in the district functioned normally.
While briefing media persons, Ws Kanral Anal, President of Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO) said that the bandh was enforced by all the seven Naga tribes of the district including the Naga Women Union.
He said, "We are not demanding the moon, so the Government to fulfill the demand of Alternative Arrangement which has been raised by UNC" .
The President also assured to support and solidarity to UNC in taking the cause of of Nagas forward.
He further informed that the bandh would be intensified and appealed to the public for their cooperation.
Senapati: Due to the UNC-sponsored bandh, Senapati district headquarters also wore a deserted look today.
NH-2 remained closed though a few permitted private vehicles were seen plying on the road.
As the educational institutions were exempted from the bandh purview, some school students were seen walking on foot while many children and young boys spent the day enjoying playing football at every empty space available.
Till the filing of this report, no untoward incident was reported.
Meanwhile, reports reaching Senapati district headquarters said that many vehicles were stranded at Manipur-Nagaland border near Mao Gate though the exact number of vehicles could not be confirmed.
Reports from Mao, Tadubi, Maram and Senapati district headquarters informed about peaceful ending of the Day-1 of the 48-hour bandh.
It was also said that all the business establishments remained closed at these areas.
Police sources have confirmed that many vehicles were stranded at Mao Gate and travelers walked till finding a means to proceed further.
