Public hearing on right to health, medical ethics on June 24

Imphal, June 17 2014:
The Human Rights Initiative (HRI), Imphal in collaboration with Women Action for development (WAD), Imphal would be organizing a one-day public hearing on right to health and medical ethics on June 24 at Manipur Press Club here.
The public hearing is being organized with an aim to improve the health care system in the State by sensitizing the general public particularly the police, medical professionals, media, civil society organizations and citizens about their rights and duties, apart from right to health.
It also aims at realizing the medical practitioners and citizens about the medical code of ethics and rights of the patients to ensure good relations between medical professionals and patient parties.
To spread awareness to all the stakeholders and citizens about the aspect of medico-legal case to ensure justice is also one of the objectives of the public hearing.
It will be heard by a panel of experts comprising experienced/eminent persons in different fields, including doctors, advocates and police personnel.
The panel of experts will give observation on the testimonies and statements of family members of victims and its recommendation will be published in a booklet form, W Joykumar, executive director, HRI told a press meet at the Manipur Press Club here Tuesday.
