MI irrigation proj gets NEC nod

Imphal, June 17 2014:
Providing relief to farmers, works for setting up of a minor irrigation project under North East Council (NEC) for supplying water from Sekmai River to around 1000 hectare of arable lands at Leikinthabi, Potsangbam, Nilakuthi and Maibakhul has started.
Sources said the Minor Irrigation Department had sent a DPR for setting up of the project at an estimated cost of Rs 442 lakhs and after getting approval from NEC, all necessary steps for initiating works for the project was made.
Under the project, works for construction of pucca dam, pucca main canal and repairing of canal are included to pave way for supplying water to arable lands.
Meanwhile, the Minor Irrigation Department has also taken up necessary steps to replace diesel pump sets with latest one at areas covered by River Lift Irrigation (RLI) scheme under National Bank for Agricultural & Rural Development (NABARD) .
