Come January next year and one will be treated to a spectrum of rhythmic and colorful cultural show, talents of beauties on the ramp and rock icons of strife-torn North East in Manipur's Senapati district.
Organized by Youth Initiative Foundation (YIF), a group set up by dynamic youths of the State, the first of its kind festival of the region under the theme 'Peace through culture and identity" will be held on January 18 and 19 .
Dominic Chawang, convener of the festival, said the event has been conceptualized to foster better inter societal amity and enhanced cultural harmony amongst the various tribes and peoples of North East India.

One of the main objectives of the event is to provide a ray of hope and send out the message that the turmoil in the region can be overcome through the message of brotherhood, which should be taken up as a mission by everyone.
"The aim of the festival is to improve internal amity and enhance cultural harmony amongst all the people of the region through cultural events showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage and beautiful people of the region and thereby spread the message of peace and brotherhood," Chawang said at a media conference here today.
The event is to infuse in the minds of the people to "celebrate the person you are, with your culture and identity" and also to liberate the youth from the dying socio-fabric, engulfed by the doctrine of violence and hatred.
An attractive cash prize of Rs 1.2 lakh, Rs 80,000 and Rs 50,000 will be given to the first , second and third NE Youth Fest with a mission position holders respectively in the beauty contest, Chawang said adding that another Rs l lakh will be given to the best cultural troupe and Rs 10,000 each to all participating troupes of the region" .
We have invited all the participants before hand and we are expecting active participation from all States of the region including Sikkim," he said.
Divulging more on the highlights of the festival, Dominic said a food festival and a musical nite with Guru Rewben Mashangva rocking to the theme song 'Brothers of the east' will be an added bonanza.
To capitalize on the efforts taken up by YIF, the event is is being supported by the district administration, financial institutions, NGOs, security forces and well wishers, he added.
