Director General of Police, Manipur, Yumnam Joykumar, IPS was given a grand reception at the battation headquarter of 8 Assam Rifles under IG AR (S), located at Sajik Tampak in Chandel district yesterday.
Yumnam (Ongbi) Ibempishak Devi, wife of DGP, Y Joykumar, wives of officers of AR, chiefs of villages in and around Sajik Tampak, villagers, school children, etc.
were present at the reception programme held under the theme "Epitome of Peace and Prosperity" organised by CO, 8 AR.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Joykumar said that it is the fag end of his service.
He has already rendered 34/35 years' service in his career so far.
He has been thinking of visiting Sajik Tampak before he retires from service for quite a long time.
But today his dream has been realised, he said.
He expressed happiness to see the people of the Sajik Tampak areas living in peace now-a-days.
Earlier, this area used to be a place for calling extortion money to be brought and kidnapped persons to be kept.
But with the presence of Assam Rifles and Army, the areas have become completely peaceful, the DGP said.
With the establishment of various infrastructure and improvement of road communication, he has been told that the children of the areas were being provided proper security for their education, which is very essential.
For education-related matters, help from the government's side or himself would always be extended to the villages, DGP Joykumar told the villagers and the village chiefs.
On the occasion, prizes were given to school children, who participated in various competitions.
DGP Joykumar also presented red blankets as gifts to the village chiefs.
Wife of DGP, Smt Ibempishak interacted with the local women and also the Assam Rifles wives on the occasion.
