A Section Officer of Manipur University Engineering Cell has been abducted by unidentified persons.
SO Thongam Dolan Meitei (32) of Khongman Zone V (West) was abducted by the armed persons on the way from his home to Manipur University on November 11 .
In the meantime, one hand grenade was placed at the residence of contractor Thingujam Munindro (52), just opposite to Dolan's residence at Khongman Zone V (East) last morning.
Dolan's father Panchami said that they were informed about Dolan's abduction by one of his colleagues in the afternoon of November 11.Dolan went out from home in the morning of the fateful day.
One UG group informed that family that Dolan was abducted in connection with a monetary demand served to MU, not for private matters.
The particular UG group further instructed Dolan's family not to pay any money to the party from their private purse, Panchami disclosed without naming the UG group involved in the abduction of his son.
The UG group further instructed the family to exert pressure on MU authorities.
When the MU authority was approached, theey maintained that they cannot negotiate with the UG group as two engineers have been already detained under the National Security Act on different charges.
It is reported that Dolan is working in MU on contract basis.
Hand grenade planted, protest staged : One hand grenade was found at the residential gate of contractor Munindro at about 5.30 am yesterday.
Police have retrieved the grenade.
There was also a similar incident about four months back when a hand grenade was found planted at at Munindro's home.
In protest against the twin incident of abduction and planting the hand grenade, local people of Khongman Zone V staged a protest demonstration today.
The protest demonstration was staged under the joint aegis of the Social Worker Congress and the Meeyamgi Yaipha Nupi Lup.
The protesters appealed to all concerned to release SO Dolan on humanitarian ground and to abstain from such activities like placing bombs in civilian areas in future.
Dolan's parents, Panchami and Ibetombi have made a fervent appeal for release of their son.
They urged the abductors to deal with MU authority if their son was abducted for matters related with MU.
Placing and planting bombs at the residences of individuals have been on the rise and all these are connected with extortions.
