Moirangthem Diharaj and his wife Anita today distributed 25 Hampshire piglets to four women self-help groups and three BPL families in Bishnupur district free of cost with the objective of improving their economic condition and earnings.
The piglets were produced by Diharaj in his own piggery farm at his residence at Moirang Ngangkhalawai and was handed over to the beneficiaries at a simple function held at his residence today.
The function was attended by Phairembam Shayamu, a nominee of Moirang Municipal Council, president of Helping Hand Thrust Association Laishram Manikhomba, editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Meetei Mayek edition) Maisnam Shivadutta Luwang, social worker Moirangthem Sanjit, retired section officer Moirangthem Apabi, company commander of 16 Maratha Li Bobby Jasrotia as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Diharaj who is also the founder secretary of the Helping Hand Thrust Association distributed the piglets through the association.
He is contemplating of extending further help to the weaker and poorer sections of the society.
Earlier also, a gym was opened at Moirang Ngangkha Lawai under the MCA project of the Maratha LI under his initiative.
Speaking at the function, Maisnam Shivadutta lauded the help hand extended by Diharaj and drew the attention of the government to give a special place for those social workers who are sincerely extending help to the poor and needy people.
Instead of reaching out to people seeking government funds in the name of doing social work, the government should search out those true social workers and agencies and also to sanction funds to them as encouragement, he said.
He also cautioned the people to be wary of those who come out to distribute rice and other materials in the name of social workers with the elections coming close.
Such people should not be treated as social workers by the people, he said.
