Imphal, January 13 2014 :
IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip has called upon the people to vote in the interest of the State and elect Congress candidates in the coming Lok Sabha election rather than voting on ethnic lines.
A home visit programme of Ministers and MLAs belonging to Haokip clan was held yesterday at Chassad Khopi (Chassad Haokip village) located within Kamjong sub-division of Ukhrul district.
The programme jointly organised by the Haokip Students' Organisation and the Haokip Family was attended by Saikot AC MLA TN Haokip, Saikul AC MLA Yamthong Haokip and Phungyar AC MLA Victor Keishing in addition to Ngamthang Haokip.
Speaking at the gathering, Ngamthang Haokip asserted that there is no party other than Congress which can govern India.
He also appealed to the gathering to vote for Congress candidates in the Lok Sabha election instead of casting one's vote based on personal interest or clans or communities to which the candidates belong.
Saying that Chassad was the place of origin for the forefathers of Haokip clan, Ngamthang confided that they came to seek the village chief's blessing.
Maintaining that ancestors are next to God, Ngamthang opined that ancestors should be venerated.
Different communities settled in the hill areas should accept that they share a fraternal bond.
Different communities have been living peacefully in the Tangkhul dominated area because people are broad-minded and love fellow beings.
When it comes to implementation of development programmes, people need to extend full support to the local MLA.
Ministers and MLAs of the Haokip clan would also provide all possible assistance.
The IFCD Minister further announced that due process would be initiated to construct a village Church.
Saying that he enjoyed the home visit programme, Victor Keishing called upon the Haokip clan not to think that they are separate from other communities/clans.
e further espoused for peaceful co-existence.
Later Chassad village chief Mangkholet Haokip blessed all the Ministers and MLAs present there with bright future in their political careers.
