Memorial award presented

Writers' Forum, Imphal conferred Khundongbam Brojendro Ningshing Mana 2014 on eminent playwright Kshetri Sanajaoba in an award presentation ceremony held at MDU today.
Noted theatre personality and National School of Drama Chairman Ratan Thiyam, who attended the function as chief guest, presented the award to Sanajaoba.
The award comprised of Rs 25000, a shawl, a citation, a memento and a certificate.
Writers' Forum Imphal President Aribam Kumar Sharma was the functional president of the award ceremony.
Ratan Thiyam while speaking at the function said that Khundongbam Sanajaoba tried to clean up the society through his plays which gave clear message to the people.
He said that the main feature of Sanajaoba's plays was effective articulation.
Saying that writing plays is not an easy task, the renowned theatre personality said that it needs lots of technical understanding.
Maintaining that Government generally earmarks huge amount of money for awards in other countries, Ratan Thiyam said that Manipur Government has not shown any such encouragement so far.
Brojendro's brother and Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Managing Director Dr Kh Palin, who is the donor of the award, stressed on the need to promote and preserve theatre and drama in Manipur.
As part of the function, a symposium on Khundongbam Brojendro's plays was also conducted.
Dr Lamabam Gojendro and Dr K Shantibala spoke at the symposium chaired by Prof N Tombi of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.
Brojendro's play 'Nainu Ama' was also staged by the artistes of MDU.
