Imphal, December 08 2014:
In the backdrop of the Govt's plan to rehabilitate Lei-Ingkhol dwellers at Lamlongei area under Heingang AC, the Lei-Ingkhol Youth Development Organisation (LYDO) today demanded that the Lei-ingkhol dwellers affected by the eviction be provided patta land and Rs 10 lakh each be given to every household and rehabilitated at a convenient place within Wangkhei AC and not elsewhere.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, LYDO president Yaithengbam Giridhon demanded that free and easy accessibility to power, water and good road communication be extended to the eviction affected Lei-ingkhol dwellers at their place of rehabilitation.
The eviction affected people would continue their agitation if the Govt fails to fulfil the demands and aspirations of the affected families, Giridhon cautioned.
He conveyed that the affected families aspire to settle within Wangkhei AC and not within Heingang AC or elsewhere.
Giridhon also pointed out that although the Govt gave its assurance to provide a plot of land measuring 30x40 ft each to all the affected families, the same has not yet been translated into action.
Pointing out that most of the Lei-Ingkhol dwellers are maimed, sick and bed ridden, the LYDO president said that it would be wrong to evict them in an apparent show of might and power.
The Govt should respect the rights of the Lei-ingkhol settlers and fulfil their demands at the earliest, he said.
The press meet was also attended by Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Lup president S Momon Leima, Malem Youth Salai president M Potun Meitei and organising secretary of HERICOUN S Tondang.
