Nearly 5000 houses to be constructed under IAY scheme

Under the ambitious Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) scheme, a plan has been set to construct 4, 658 houses to give shelter to families belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) in the State.
Sources said Centre had already given approval to sanction an amount of Rs 62 crore under 2014-15 Financial Year for construction of the houses under the scheme.
The share amount to be borne by the State Government to implement the scheme is Rs 3.60 crore.
Out of the 4, 658 houses to be constructed under the scheme, 79 will be for Scheduled Caste; 680 for Minority and the remaining for Scheduled Tribe and others.
Beneficiaries under the scheme have to construct the houses themselves.
Estimated cost of a house is Rs 75, 000.Apart from BPL families, widows residing in villages and poor disabled persons will also be included in the list of the beneficiaries, the source informed.
Selection of beneficiaries will be done by District Level Authority under the aegis of the State Government.
As the IAY is a centrally sponsored scheme, the State Government has to send reports of the scheme including selection of beneficiaries and implementation process to the Centre from time to time.
Beneficiaries of the scheme also included those who do not have houses to live in and those who are not in a position to construct houses of their own, the sources added.
