Imphal, November 02 2008:
Gearing up for the by-election of 27-Moirang Assembly Constituency after its representative recently passed away, the Moirang Block Youth Congress Committee (MBYCC) has resolved to nominate Mairenbam Prithviraj as the party's candidate.
The AC remains vacant following the demise of its MLA Mairenbam Manindra due to illness and election for the said assembly seat is likely to be scheduled along with the Parliamentary elections.
Prithviraj is Manindra's son.
Decision to put up Prithviraj as nominee of the Congress unit was reportedly arrived at in yesterday's meeting of the MBYCC held at Moirang Mairenbam Leikai.
Even though Manindra's demise has reduced the number of Congress MLAs in the ruling SPF Government to 30 the Congress-led Government enjoys the support of CPI MLAs with the RJD also extending support from outside.
The MBYCC meeting attended by presidents/secretaries of other units spread across 37 polling stations within Moirang AC as well as party workers and sympathisers also recalled development activities initiated by Manindra.
The meeting unanimously chose educationally and politically sound Prithviraj as the Congress nominee so as to sustain development works envisaged by his late father, MBYCC functionaries conveyed.
Moreover, it adopted another resolution to approach leaders of the AICC, MPCC and district level Congress committee besides intimation to the Chief Minister to back candidacy of Prithviraj for the Moirang AC by-poll.
