Imphal, November 02 2008:
As in other parts of the State, the post harvest festival of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo group Kut was also celebrated at Standard High School Sugnu Tribal yesterday.
The inaugural function of the district level Kut celebration was graced by Education Minister L Jayantakumar, MLA E Dwijamani and MLA U Deben as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The Kut festival celebrated under the theme of Peace, Unity and Harmony was also attended by ex-MDC Leo Kamchingthang as kutpa.
Addressing the function, Jayantakumar called upon all to strive together to realise the festival's theme Peace, Unity and Harmony so that Manipur can stride ahead on the path of development.
Dwijamani noted that efforts to bring peace in the State should begin with oneself.
Taking part in the Kut celebration as a host, local MLA Thamkholun Haokip said that since the State Government declared holiday on Kut festival day, the festival has assumed character of an all community festival rather than of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo group alone.
During the celebration which was also attended by many district level officers including the DC, cultural troupes presented several traditional dance numbers.
Miss Kut contest held in the evening as a part of the festival was won by CH Mary Aimol of Aimol Tampak village, Pallel.
