Smart Card for vehicle registration certificate (RC) and driving licence has been launched by Transport Minister L Jayantakumar today.
Speaking as chief guest at the launching function held at the office of Transport Directorate, Jayantakumar said that all the Government Departments including Police are working under "threat".
He noted that Government officials have been working with threats and fear lurking on all sides.
Without specifically naming those elements causing hindrance and impediments, the Transport Minister appealed to all concerned not to pose much obstacles saying "we would work with due emphasis on quality".
He also sought cooperation from all quarters.
In view of the prevailing law and order situation and numerous cases of forging vehicle documents, the Transport Department has a critical responsibility, noted Jayantakumar while informing that the Smart Card was launched in the State according to a directive of the Central Government.
Taking strong exception to the increasing number of illegal vehicles in the State, Jayantakumar informed that funds for building an inter-State bus terminus have been deposited with the Works Department.
The Smart Card project has been started in Imphal West district by its State Key Management Authority cum Deputy Director BK Sharma.
The project would be taken up in other districts too, he said.
The Smart Card launching function was also attended by MANITRON Chairman MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar and MLA E Dwijamani as functional president and guest of honour respectively.
