Imphal, October 01:
A major controversy is threatening to rock the examination held to select five nominees from Manipur to undergo the six month, "Certificate Programme in Application of Information Technology in Fashion and Textiles," at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata.
Sources said that one among the five selected candidate does not possess the minimum qualification prescribed for eligibility and that is 12 class pass in any stream and a certificate in basic IT skills from a reputed organization.
The desirable qualification is graduation and higher qualification.
The test was held on September 27 and the result was declared immediately.
The study programme is sponsored by the Department of North East Region and altogether forty candidates were selected for the course from the North Eastern States.
Manipur's share is five seats.
Sources said that the examination was conducted on September 27 with the State Commerce and Industries Department as the nodal agency while a co-ordinator from NIFT arrived here to conduct the entrance examination.
The course fee is Rs 85 thousand of which DONER will bear 90 pc while the remaining 10 pc are to be borne by the selected candidates.
The test was conducted with the arrival of the NIFT co-ordinator SS Ray.
While 5 have been selected, 15 are being kept in the waiting list, said the source.
The five candidates who have been selected are S Sailabati, N Premkumar, Oinam Pintu, A Sonia Chanu and Sonia Sorokhaibam.
However amongst these five candidates, it has surfaced that one of them does not have the required basic IT skills, which has been spelt out as the basic eligibility criteria for the candidates to join the course.
During a spot inquiry conducted by The Sangai Express at the office of the Commerce and Industries Department, it was found that the said candidate is a BSc degree holder.
However the basic IT skill certificate was found missing on the notice board.
