Imphal, October 01:
Communist Party of India (CPI) gen secy AB Bardhan today emphatically said that his party supports the people's demand for removal of AFSPA, punishment of the killers of Manorama and shifting of AR from Kangla.
Interacting with media-persons during a press conference before leaving Imphal today, AB Bardhan said that the Government should lift all draconian laws once normalcy returns to the State and added that the partial lifting of the Act from the Imphal Municipal areas on a trial basis was a very good move on the part of the State Govt.Solution to the State's problems will be brought about only through a political dialogue and not through gun culture or violence, added AB Bhardhan.
Commenting on the Apunba Lup leaders' decision to hold talks with the Governor on the current impasse, Bardhan said that Apunba Lup leaders by initiating talks with the Governor were moving in the right direction and added that an amicable solution will surely be reached if talks begin between the two opposing groups even if it takes time.
Expressing deep concern over the bandh imposed on the NH-39 and 53, he opined that the Apunba Lup should immediately lift the bandh and help create a cordial atmosphere before the talks.
He also lamented that the highway bandh have increased the prices of essential commodities considerably in the last few weeks thereby causing a lot of inconvenience to the poor people.
Asserting that insurgency was posing a great problem in bringing about development in the North East region, Bardhan said that the State Govt has not been able to implement the Central Government projects successfully as large chunk of the funds released by the Central Govt for developing the region has been siphoned off by the UGs.
