The week-long Manipur University Festival, MUFEST-2004 has began from today with lighting of sacred fire from Kangla at Dr Kamal Stadium within the university complex.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof N Bijoy Singh and Dean of Students, MU Dr W Nabakumar Singh graced the inaugural function as chief guest and president respectively.
Dean of Social Science, MU Prof Ksh Bimola, Dean of School of Sciences, MU Prof Ch Amuba, Dean of Humanities, MU Prof Devaraj and Cultural Co-ordinator Dr RK Somorjit attended the function as guests of honour.
The main objective of organizing the festival is to inculcate the spirit of unity and brotherhood among the students through cultural activities.
Various competitions in quiz, elocution, debate, singing, fine art, etc would also be organizing during the week-long extravaganza.
Reception function: Manipur University would be organizing a reception function in honour of Governor Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu, who is also the Chancellor of the University on October 4 at the Centenary Hall of the University.
The function would begin from 3.30 pm.
Literary meet: The DM College of Science, Imphal would be organizing its annual literary meet cum teachers� day celebration on October 4 and 5.Interested students have been asked to submit their names and the items they want to perform to the secretary general of the students� union of the college.
Merit award: The first Phadeng Memorial Cash Award has been presented to Kh Lamnganbi Chanu of Canchipur High School for her excellence in studies during a simple function held at the school today.
The award is comprised of Rs 500 in cash along with a citation and memento.
