STDCM gears up for protest

While condemning the alleged silence of the state government to the demand for the inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) has called upon the people, Meitei/Meetei community-particular, to prepare for launching protests with strict adherence to Covid-19 SOP guidelines.
In a release, STDCM publicity secretary W Ananda Meetei informed that the annual general body meeting of the committee was held on September 19, followed by an executive committee meeting convened on September 22 at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen, DMC campus.
The meeting resolved to convene a meeting with representatives of political parties in the state and also to conduct a series of consultative meetings, he added.
Ananda announced that the committee is prepared to launch protest if the government of Manipur fails to take up initiatives for sending necessary recommendation to the centre for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list so as to ensure constitutional safeguard of the threatened indigenous community.
