Imphal, September 28 2021:
All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) submitted a memorandum to chief minister N Biren urging the latter to ensure safety of Tamenglong people during the search operations being conducted to nab culprits involved in the killing of Athuan Abonmai.
According to the memorandum, the union condoles and shares grief of the family and well-wishers who are mourning the untimely demise of Athuan Abonmai, the former president and advisor of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) .
The union was shocked and overwhelmed to learn about the unfortunate abduction in broad daylight in the presence of security personnel in the vicinity by unknown men on the day the CM visited Tamenglong.
The most traumatic theory which terrified the general public most was that security personnel present in the scene were not at all concerned about saving lives of the people but were just mentally induced in festive mood while the CM was inaugurating projects in the district headquarters.
They seemed just trivially conversed to the abductors which doubted the common citizens about their infidelity to the oath (Kasam parade) of security allegiance to the nation and citizens thereby maligning image of the popular state government, the memorandum added.
While referring to some news reports about one Major-led ten personnel escorting Athuan Abonmai from M-sector to Tamenglong, the memorandum pointed out that the video footage of the abduction incident was contradictory as only the Major was seen beaten up and fallen near a dry log and asked whereabouts of the other nine personnel when the incident took place.
As such, it is also attributed to such failure of security intelligence tactic upon the Major-led team as Athuan Abonmai was not seen dropped inside Apollo ground, neither was he secured by the said ten security personnel team despite obvious threat to Abonmai's life.
Hence, every event did not hold justification that Athuan Abonmai was provided sufficient security cover on that fateful day, it said and alleged that state government's machinery was fully responsible for lagging behind in analysing such sensitive matters and intelligence inputs which rather did not secure public but risked their lives on the fateful day.
The memorandum then urged the chief minister to instruct security personnel deployed in Tamenglong not to harass innocent public while launching combing operation to nab culprits.
