Ukhrul, September 28 2021:
In a heart-warming gesture of support, Marou villagers on Monday organised a blessing ceremony for Hopingson A Shimray, who is running for the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly elections 2022 from Phungyar Assembly constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, Shimray informed that his vision is to work and serve the public for inclusive and progressive change.
He said "development should be comprehensive; it should be for everyone's growth and prosperity and should be founded on mutual trust of all".
Held under the aegis of the Marou village authority, the ceremony reawakened the call for unity among the local villagers in support of Shimray.
Village elders who spoke on the occasion mentioned that the villagers were ready to support Shimray as their candidate in the coming elections.
According to Shimray's close aide, the blessing ceremony was not a campaign kick-off but only a symbolic event organised by the villagers or his native place to reassure their support for him.
Shimray tendered his resignation as president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) on September 1 last, to run for the coming elections.
Though executive body of TNL has reportedly approved his resignation, final approval will be given by the TNL Assembly on September 30.Shimray was elected unopposed as TNL president, succeeding president in-charge V Peimi in 2018 .
Earlier in 2016, Shimray took voluntary retirement from his position as the Chief Financial Advisor (CFA) at North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) with an aim to join electoral politics and serve the people.
