Kangpokpi, September 28 2021:
Alleging the standing committee of Kuki Students'Organization (KSO) General Headquarters, which was also the election commission in the recently conducted KSO-GHQs election, of indulging in gross misconduct and favouritism, Thangminlen Kipgen, the in-charge president of the student body, has declared the election and the decision of the standing committee null and void.
Thangminlen contended that the KSO-GHQs standing committee had defied all time-honoured norms and tainted its image by conducting an election loaded with favouritism and nepotism instead of maintaining total neutrality and focusing on the smooth conduct of the election without any bias and favour.
He alleged that the standing committee was found guilty of openly campaigning for some candidates to turn the tide for candidates of their choice and their act and conduct was dpwnright outrageous since they had assumed the role of the election commission.
"The outcome of the botch-up election is unacceptable to the people", asserted Thangminlen Kipgen.
Thangminlen Kipgen, who had served KSO for more than 10 years as the president of KSO Sadar Hills and vice president of KSO-GHQs was given in-charge of KSO-GHQs president after the incumbent president vacated the post on April 2021 due to his personal issues.
He said that by conventional practice the president in charge is to be regarded as the putative president for the next term but unfortunately "I was found to be too difficult to handle from the perspective of the standing committee of KSO-GHQs which was also the election commission".
Peeved with "the manners of the KSO-GHQs standing committee", Thangminlen Kipgen declared the election and decision of the standing committee unacceptable and proclaimed that he would continue to occupy the post of KSO-GHQs president.
Thangminlen continued to allege that the aftermath of the KSO-GHQs election held at Tuibong Churachandpur on August 28 witnessed an uproarious remonstrance against their reprehensible conduct but to evade their misdeeds they hastily renounced their posts and appointed a new standing committee to pass on the blame to them.
He went on to take a dig at the standing committee for treating KSO-GHQs as their personal chattel, adding that the "meddlesome standing committee" has this presumptuous notion that every executive of KSO-GHQs should regard them as their masters and meekly follow all their injunctions and instructions.
He then recalled that ATSUM had to face the ignominy of split years back because of their meddlesomeness.
It was mutually agreed between ANSAM and KSO-GHQ executives to install a new ATSUM executive as it was dormant for many years due to the tussle for leadership.
Once the matter reached the ears of the de facto KSO standing committee, the executives of KSO-GHQ were coerced to back down from the agreement 'leaving us red-face in front of our counterpart, ANSAM'.
The result was the split of ATSUM, he added.
Thangminlen then said that to ensure that they can continue to pull the strings of KSO-GHQ, the present standing committee members procrastinated their tenure to a ridiculous tenure of almost ten years and keeping the legitimate members at bay, adding that the present impasse is also the handiwork of the standing committee all because they want to install learned leaders who are amenable to their dictates and dance to their tunes.
"The standing committee is a Frankenstein monster created by some self-seeking former leaders with some motive of furthering their own personal interests and nothing else.
They are not only meddlesome but had many times played the role of obstructionist when momentous decisions are taken by the KSO-GHQ executives", he added.
He continued that as such there is an imperative need to cut the KSO-GHQ standing committee down to size and show them that their true role is advisory, not decision making.
He then declared, "All the recent decisions and manoeuvring of the standing committee stand null and void" .
