Kakching, October 05 2022:
In view of the inconveniences being faced due to deteriorating condition of Indo-Burma Sugnu Road, especially along the stretch from Wabagai Lamkhai to New Somtal via Sugnu and Chakpikarong, people of the area have urged the government to repair the road.
Speaking in this regard, a villager informed that the road, which is the lifeline of more than three lakh people living in Kakching, Chandel and Churachandpur districts, was blacktopped in 2009-10 by the then works minister K Ranjit from Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu passing Chakpikarong.
However, the road has not been maintained since then causing unprecedented inconveniences to the people.
He said that the potholes in Sugnu, Serou and Chakpikarong areas are root cause of accidents and further recalled the assurance given by incumbent works minister Govindas Konthoujam for completing repairing of the road before March, 2023.While demanding to repair the said road at the earliest and mitigate the problems being faced by the people, the villager contended that the recent mending of potholes from Wabagai Lamkhai to Chakpikarong was not done properly and some portions have started falling apart.
