Imphal, February 09 2022:
Maintaining that Yaiskul assembly constituency is still lagging behind other constituencies, INC candidate for Yaiskul AC N Helendro has called upon the people of the constituency not to sell their voting rights but to exercise it properly in order to elect the right candidate who can take the constituency to the forefront of development.
Addressing a press meet at his residence on Wednesday after the official process of scrutiny of nomination papers was completed, Hekndro said that Yaiskul is one of the most important ACs in the political history of the state.
The first chief minister, first Olympian, first IAS officer and many firsts of the state were from Yaiskul.
Despite being located in the heart of Imphal city, the constituency is still lagging behind on the development front, and so the desire for bringing improvement in the constituency made him to contest the election, he said.
He resigned from his service in 2016 and contested the 2017 state assembly election as an independent candidate but lost.
This time, he is contesting the election as the candidate of the oldest political party of the country with full confidence of winning, Helendro affirmed, while calling upon the people of the constituency to support him in the ensuing election.
Maintaining that the public no longer want the BJP government both at the Centre and in the state, Helendro said that people are no longer able to enjoy their democratic rights.
The BJP government in the state has not been able to conduct elections to the ADCs and urban local bodies.
It has failed to conduct MPSC examination.
Moreover, the government is putting the burden of Covid-19 pandemic on the public by doing nothing to control price rise of essential commodities, he said.
On the other hand, there is the trend of wealthy people entering politics and it is a serious threat to the spirit of democracy, he said while urging public not to sell their votes and exercise their voting rights for a better future of the society.
