FEEDS founder Haokholet conferred CHAI awards

Foundation of Environment and Economic Development Services (FEEDS), Hengbung (Kangpokpi) and its founder and former minister Haokholet Kipgen have been conferred Confederation of Horticulture Association of India (CHAI) 's institutional fellow award and honorary fellow award, 2021 respectively.
Haokholet was conferred honorary fellow of CHAI for his outstanding contribution to education, rural development and motivational leadership while FEEDS Group of Institutes was honoured for its outstanding contributions to education and tribal area development.
The awards were presented during the three-day long Global Conference on 'Innovative Approaches for Enhancing Water Productivity in Agriculture including Horticulture' held at the auditorium of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) on September 16 .
Speaking to media persons at his Hengbung residence, Haokholet Kipgen expressed that he feels blessed to have been conferred the prestigious CHAI's honorary fellow award.
Responding to a query on how he could make such a huge success in various other fields when he is still very much active in politics, Haokholet said that the tribal populace is very much backward economically and in all respects for which education is the need of the hour to overcome all obstacles and stand parallel with others.
He said that tribal people in a state like Manipur will not grow and develop through general education only and technical education is the need of the hour.
On the other hand, FEEDS is promoting alternatives to Jhumming (shifting cultivation) and consequently established a Krishi Vigyan Kendra under ICAR in 2002.It also managed programme of IFAD for integrated water development.
It has established National Mission on Himalaya Studies (NMHS), a Women Technology Park, a Lead Botanical Garden and a Mushroom Research and Development Centre with Central government funding.
It collaborated with Amity University, Noida apart from establishing a College of Horticulture and a College of Agriculture.
