Bandh called to demand fair compensation

Imphal, October 05 2021:
Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs and Elders Organisation (MDAHCEO) and Joint Action Committee Against Force Construction of Mapithel Dam, (JAC-AFCMD) Manipur have announced enforcement of bandh along the Imphal-Kamjong and the Imphal-Ukhrul roads for 48 hours starting from October 6 midnight to denounce alleged indifferent attitude of the state government to the agreed 19 points under Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) since on April 12,2021 and the ultimatum served by the body of the affected landowners to honour the demands by September 25 .
A press release jointly signed by MDAHCEO chairman M Ngaranmi and JAC-AFCMD secretary Letkhosei Mate informed that they had submitted an ultimatum to the government on September 16 to translate into action the agreements of the MoA and implement and pay compensation on the agreed points within September 25.The demands also included approval to for extending compensation to left-out affected villages namely -Sikiphung and Thawai Kuki villages of Kamjong district and Siloijang, Thangjingpokpi, Resophung, Island and S Bongjang villages of Kangpokpi district - in the Economic Livelihood Rehabilitation Packages and also to approve left-out beneficiaries of Shangkai village in Ukhrul district; Thawai (Thoyee), Riha, Ramrei, Lamlai Mongbung, Lamlai Khunou, Chadong, Louphong, Phaiyang, Nqngdam (K) and Nongdam (T) villages in Kamjong district; Maphou Kuki and Bethelphai villages under Kangpokpi district; and Tumukhong village in Imphal East district.
"All CSOs, NGOs, people and well-wishers of Manipur are requested to extend support to the proposed strike/bandh.
In case, no action is taken by the government of Manipur, we may take up more intense agitation for the villagers affected by the Mapithel Dam," the release cautioned, adding that medical, electricity, marriage, examination and emergency services would be exempted from the bandh.
