Imphal, November 29 2021:
North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) chairperson to extend the deadline of application for the national scholarships for North Eastern Region.
In a memorandum addressed the chairperson, NE-FIS regretted that the UGC has set November 30 as deadline for applying for Ishan Uday Scholarship despite the ongoing admission process for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses across institutions in the country.
In case the UGC sticks to its decision that it is obvious that many prospective applicants would be denied the opportunity to avail the scholarship benefits, the NEFIS representation noted.
In a release issued here, NEFIS member Thokchom Yaiphalembi Chanu said that the memorandum submitted to the UGC demanded that the deadline for Ishan Uday Scholarship for North Eastern Region be extended till the admission process is complete in higher educational institutions across the country.
It also suggested that deadlines for other national scholarships must be extended.
Stating that NEFIS takes the scholarship matter with all seriousness, the member cautioned that in case the UGC ignores its genuine proposal than it would be mobilise students on the issue.
"The North-East region, it should be noted, has been deprived of educational infrastructure for a long time.
In this context, denying the students of the region from availing the scholarship would only serve to deny them the opportunities in higher education," added the memorandum.
