Anti-Leprosy Day observed in Thoubal district

Thoubal, January 30 2023:
District Health Society and National Leprosy Eradication Programme, Thoubal jointly organised Anti-Leprosy Day at Sangaiyumpham Primary Health Centre on Monday as part of the countrywide 'Sparsh Leprosy Awareness cum Anti-Leprosy Fortnight' observance.
The programme was attended by Thoubal chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Y Nokul as chief guest and Sangaiyumpham Part-1 GP pradhan Md Jakir as functional president while Sangaiyumpham PHC senior medical officer Dr Ch Chandramani and DLO (Thoubal) Dr M Nomita Devi were the guests of honour.
During the programme, floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation and Leprosy patients presented with gifts as encouragement.
An interactive session on Leprosy, ways to prevent and the available treatments was also conducted.
In his address, Dr Nokul informed that January 30 is observed every year as "World Leprosy Day" to honour the sacrifices and dedications of Mahatma Gandhi in helping the leprosy patients.
Gandhi would help the patients with his bare hands when every other people treated them with fear and disgust, Nokul said.
Informing that three Thoubal denizens have been newly infected with Leprosy in-spite of the country progressing towards total elimination of the disease, Dr Nokul urged stakeholders concerned to join hands for speedy eradication of the same.
