IFM meet calls for framing land use policy

Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) organised its Loumeesing ge Poinu Meefam 3.0' at MDU hall here on Wednesday and adopted several resolutions including demand for formulation of a land use policy by the government.
The meet resolved that agricultural land in the state should be protected and not allowed to be used for other purposes.
Tenant farmers should be given land right and land use policy should be framed and implemented without delay.
The meet also resolved that forceful occupation of agricultural land for temporary projects should be stopped and suggested market policy for products of farmers, setting up cold storages to increase shelf life of local agricultural produce and preservation of indigenous crop seeds.
The Poinu meet further demanded proper irrigation facilities for ensuring timely harvesting and examination of the reason for failure Of irrigation canal in the state.
Water policy should be formed and water bodies should be preserved.
In addition to it, corruption and favouritism in agricultural related schemes should be stopped once and for all.
IFM lauded CM N Biren, agriculture director N Gojen-dro, veterinary director Dr Ch Nandakishore Singh, joint director (horticulture) K Devabarta, Thongju pradhan Th Lata, ZP S Neken, Sanamahi Motors, Dr Dabali, Likla's Joykumar, awardee and panellists and all those who helped in organising Poinu Meefam which is conducted annually on December 8 for the welfare of farming community.
