Imphal, December 24 2016:
Former MLA Y Erabot, who recently resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP, has questioned what the Congress led UPA Government did when an economic blockade was imposed in the State in 2010 .
Speaking to media persons at his residence today, Erabot said that economic blockade has become a disease in the State and questioned what the Congress Government did when such an economic blockade was imposed earlier, especially in 2010 .
The former MLA from Wangkhei Kendra said that when he was the CAF and PD Minister in 2010, the State reeled under a spell of economic blockade.
The issue was discussed many times during Cabinet meetings, then but nothing substantial was done to address the blockade, he charged and recalled how he had asked the State Government to provide security forces to escort back trucks stranded at Jiribam.
However, the State Government suggested Guite road which turned out to be dangerous and treacherous, he said.
At that point of time the State Government sent a report to the Centre wrongly informing that the Imphal- Jiri road was not fit for movement of trucks and requested for more security forces .
He questioned why the Chief Minister sent a false report and stated it was an act of betrayal.
Erabot said that back in 2010 he was provided a limited number of security forces when the State Government came to know about his plans to bring back stranded trucks from Jiribam.
Pointing out that the Central Government has already sent three companies and 4000 personnel of Central paramilitary forces, Erabot asserted that the State Government can definitely open the highways if it is determined to do so.
The CM's statement where he pointed out that the tensions in the State would have been solved if the Centre had acted on time is unfortunate , Erabot added.
He stated that it would not be wrong to question what the CM did in 2010 when the Congress government was in power in both the Centre and the State.
Erabot also extended his wishes to the people on the occasion of Christmas and wished that it brings love and peace among the people of the State.
