JCILPS set to take up ILPS issue with Prez

Imphal, April 21 2016: The Govt should take up steps to convert the three Bills passed for protection of indigenous peo-ple of the State into Acts and ensure its immediate enforce-ment in the State.

This was stated by JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan while addressing a district level leaders' meet on ILP issue at Sangeet Kala Sangam hall, Khurai Lamlong.

Ratan said that JCILPS will submit a memorandum to the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee during his visit to the State on Khongjom Day.

The meeting was attended, among others, by JCILPS co-conveners BK Moirangcha, Ksh Somorendra, Arjun Telheiba, Kheiruddin Shah, president of Lamlong Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup, A Apabi and adviser of the 10 Union, S Manihar.

Members of Meira Paibis and clubs of Imphal East district also attended the programme.

Khomdram Ratan demanded the Govt to convert the three Bills passed on Aug 31 last year into Acts and implement them immediately before intense agitation is launched.

The three Bills being stuck on the table of the President, awaiting his assent, is not the desire of the people.

It is the wish of the people that the three Bills are converted into Acts, Ratan said.

He said that the JCILPS and the State Govt signed agreements on several points for the safeguard of the people of the State following intense agitation last year.

However, the State Govt is not implementing the agreements which are in its discretion, he alleged.

He also lambasted the State Govt for giving free passage to illegal migrants from Mao Gate, Moreh and Jiribam.

The duties of the State Labour Dept have been shouldered by the people, he rued while urging the Govt to act fast if it is serious to safeguard indigenous people of the State.

Ratan further said that a law for the protection of the indigenous people of the State should be enforced as it were done in other States and the influx of migrants into the State should be regulated.

The State Govt should not scheme ways for the extinction of the indigenous population, he said while adding that minority communities should be protected in order to safeguard the integrity of India.

He urged the people to get prepared for any steps for the protection of the indigenous people.

Co-conveners of JCILPS and leaders of CSOs also spoke at the meeting.
