Imphal, March 18 2020:
Wangkhem Congress MLA K Meghachandra has warmly welcomed the ruling of the Supreme Court regarding the case against Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar.
Speaking to media persons at Babupara today, the MLA said that following the SC order, Shyamkumar will no longer be a Minister.
He continued that taking the fact that the Speaker's Tribunal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly had reserved March 28 for further proceeding of the disqualification case against Shyamkumar, the Supreme Court, honouring and respecting the dignity of the Speaker, did not pass any disqualification order and instead left it to the Speaker's Tribunal for passing the appropriate order.
Meghachandra further stated that if the Speaker's Tribunal fails to disqualify Th Shyamkumar, then the Supreme Court might pass another order within a short period of time and the apex Court will not take the failure of the Tribunal very lightly.
Saying that the Congress party got its due justice today, the MLA said that this latest development will also prevent any Constitutional crisis in the State.
The SC order shows that the law is above all and it also strengthens the firm belief in the Constitution, he added.
