The Imphal-Tupul-Jiribam railway project will be finished within the deadline and there is an overall physical progress of 80 percent, said Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal in the Lok Sabha today.
Replying to queries of MP Dr RK Ranjan, the Railway Minister said all necessary measures have been taken to address the law and order problem in the project area to meet the deadline.
About four battalions of security forces are deployed in the project area.
Three Bns of paramilitary forces have been deployed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Manipur Government in addition to one battalion of Territorial Army deployed by the Ministry of Defence at 38 camps in the project area to maintain law and order, he said.
Of the 19 weak bailey bridges on the feeder road (National Highway-37), 14 have been rebuilt with close coordination of Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Manipur Government and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Work of rebuilding of two other bridges is being taken up, informed the Minister.
Goyal further clarified that there is no proposal to make Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contract mandatory for the ongoing project.
