HSA, HTC, ZoRO and others condemn arson attack at Chassad

The Hmar Students' Association (HSA) has expressed concern over the torching of around 150 houses at Chassad village, Kamjong district by a mob of arsonists due to misunderstanding between two villages on March 16."We condemned such incident which has rendered many people homeless," said a statement issued by HSA and urged the State Government to take immediate care of the affected families including women and children who have been rendered homeless in the process.
It further urged the Government to build shelters for all those whose houses were gutted and to rebuild school and Aganwadi centre besides providing compensation for property lost in the incident.
Lauding the Government and all the civil society organizations who have swiftly taken steps for restoration of peace, harmony and tranquillity in the region, the HSA appealed the all concerned to deploy strong security force in the vulnerable areas to avoid such catastrophe in future.
While consoling the affected families of Chassad village under Kamjong district whose houses have been reduced to ashes on March 16 incident, the Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh asserted that the hue and cry of the affected villagers will not go in vain.
A press release from HTC also accused District Administration for being a mute spectator at a time when Chassad village was burning like a wildfire.
Saying that it will be unfair if the State Government turn blind eye to the suffering of affected families, it appealed the Chief Minister to compensate the loss at the earliest.
At least two CSOs based in Mizoram also condemned the arson at Chassad village in Kamjong district.
The ZoRO (Zo Reunification Organisation) general headquarters conveyed profound sorrow on the burning of houses and properties belonging to the Kuki brethren on March 16 and extended heartfelt sympathy to the victims.
It urged the State Government to arrest all culprits involved in the 'barbaric' and punish as per the law of the land at the earliest.
The organisation also demanded compensation for the victims.
Further, the organisation said, 'ZORO remembers our Kuki brothers and sisters who are victims of the violence and will keep a close watch on them and the organisation is ready to step forward if the need arises'.
Mizo Zirlai Pawl, general headquarters also expressed concern over the incident.
The Zoram People's Movement also vehemently condemned the March 16 incident in Chassad village of Kamjong district where over a hundred houses and properties were burnt down to ashes.
The Mizoram based political party also demanded the State Government to arrest the perpetrators of the unlawful act and to give adequate compensation to the victims at the earliest.
The ZPM further urged the people of Kamjong district to shun violence and be alert against the global outbreak of Covid-19.Council of Kuki Worship Services (CKWS), a non-denominational Church organization formed by Kuki Worship Services located in 20 cities of India and 4 cities abroad, also expressed shocked and heartfelt pain over the incidence of burning over 150 houses in Chassad Village, Kamjong district on March 16 and appealed all to promote peace and harmony in the State.
A press release from CKWS also appealed all to abhor violence of any form and find a solution to problems and issues through peaceful dialogue and negotiation based on Biblical principles of mutual love, trust and respect.
It also urged the State Government and authorities concerned to take adequate action and deliver justice to rebuild the life of affected villagers.
