Rajya Sabha election : NPF withdraws, leaves turf for BJP-Cong fight

Following urgings from the National president of the BJP and its top leaders, the Naga People's Front has decided to pull its candidate out from the election to the Rajya Sabha for which voting will be held on March 26 .
Incidentally the NPF and BJP are partners in the BJP led Government at Imphal.
Speaking to The Sangai Express State unit president of the NPF Awangbow Newmai, who is also a Minister in the BJP led Government, said that the party decided to withdraw the candidature of Honreikhiu Kashung, as it is working along with the BJP and the main intent of all the coalition partners is to ensure the victory of the candidate of the coalition partners.

The decision to withdraw the nomination of Honreikhiu Kashung was taken after the BJP National president himself sought the support of the NPF, said Newmai.
The State NPF president further said that the party initially named a candidate for the Rajya Sabha as it wanted to work for the State but since the appeal came from the BJP leaders and since the NPF and the BJP are working together, the decision to withdraw the candidature was taken, he added.
With the NPF withdrawing the candidature of its man, the BJP and Congress will face off for the lone Rajya Sabha seat on March 26 .
The face off between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress will be decided by 59 of the 60 MLAs as Congress elected BJP Minister Th Shyamkumar has been barred from entering the Assembly by the Supreme Court today.
The election for the lone Rajya Sabha seat of the State will be held at Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat on March 26 .
