Hindi poet remembered

Hindi recitation and presentation of awards marked the 102nd birth anniversary of Nityagopal Kaviraj (Late) Raichoudhuri Rajvaidhya at Manipur Hindi Parishad office, Assembly Road.
speakers who addressed the anniversary celebration organised today by Lokmangal Udbhodine Samiti remembered Raichoudhuri as a social worker, freedom fighter and a dedicated campaigner of Hindi literatures.
The event also witnessed about 35 poets reciting Raichoudhuri's works in Manipuri, Hindi, Bengali, Assamese and Nepali dialects.
In recognition of their contribution towards promotion of Hindi in Manipur, Anoubam Binodchandra and Gurumayum Gopinath Sharma were conferred with the Hindi Sewak Siromani award, which carries a shawl and citation.
Moreover, Ningthemjao Singh was honoured with the Matran Siromani award.
Speaking as the chief guest, former Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof S Nandakumar Sharma said that since establishment of the Manipur Hindi Parishad a number of literary works have been translated from Hindi to Manipuri and vice versa thereby not only enabling the common readers read and appreciate their works but also resulting in Government of India conferring awards to Hindi writers for enriching the national language.
He also conceded that inspite of opening of Hindi Department in MU there is still need for a faculty member with thorough knowledge on the language.
The celebration was also attended by Prof Elangbam Dinamani Singh as the president while Rajkumar Jhaljit Singh and Inspector General of BSF (Silchar Region) Manohar Lal Batham graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
