NE carnival 2012 from Feb 18

New Delhi, February 16 2012:
A cultural and food extravaganza of the North east would be held in the capital starting from February 18 till 28 at Pitampura in West Delhi.
The event titled 'Carnival of NE India 2012' would bring craftsmen from the seven states of the North East, while cultural presentation including a fashion parade showcasing varieties of traditional attires and costumes would be presented.
Music ranging from rock, soft and folk music would also be part of the carnival.
The carnival would end with a traditional Manipuri Thabal Chongba.
The official inaugural function on February 19, would be addressed by DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowat and Manipur MP Dr Thokchom Meinya.
Addressing the media, organizers of the event, the Indigenous People Welfare Organization informed that the carnival of Northeast is an attempt to bridge the gap between the region and the rest of the country.
Such carnival would be a platform to bring in together different communities of the region as well as the mainland.
According to the organizers, the initiative is also taken in view of the advent of the 'Look East Policy', the proposed Asian Highway, Asian rail link, natural gas pipeline, wherein the Northeast region has become important and indispensable for realising the dream of Vision 2020 .
The Northeast Carnival 2012 is jointly sponsored by Government of India's Ministry of Home, DoNER, New & Renewable Energy and Manipur Development Society (Govt.of Manipur) in liaison with Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation.
