17 parking slots identified, joint meeting today

In its endeavour to ease traffic congestions at various pockets along the stretches of Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar roads and promote walking habits within 450-500 metres (International standard), the State Transport Department has declared seventeen Public Parking Lots (PPL) in and around the peripheries of Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar to enable shoppers park their vehicles and walk down along the stretches for shopping.
In a statement, the Director of Transport, BK Sharma informed that in consultation with the District Police authority of Imphal West, steps for allowing vehicles to enter Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar stretches from 1pm to 3pm has been made with the services of thellas during their marketing.
It further assured that more PPLs would be declared when the Nagamapal stretch is available after completion of the ongoing PDA construction project.
"The basic intention of the enforcement authorities concerned is not to harass the public but assist/help/educate them how to use the available carriage-widths and where to park their vehicles and walk down along the stretches just like entering big malls in metros," explained the Department chief.
At the same time, the department is also organising an Open Consultative Meeting on February 17 at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Transport, Babupara in this regard.
