JCILPS conducts survey on non-locals in Imphal East

Imphal, October 11 2014 : The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has conducted a survey of non-locals today morning in Chingmeirong area, under Wangkhei Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district.

Addressing a press meet today at its office, BK Moirangcha, co-convenor of JCILPS said that the survey on non-locals has been taken up by the JCILPS after constituting a committee known as Joint Committee on Non Manipuri Survey Works along with members of various local clubs and meira paibis to carry out the survey in their respective areas.

Today's survey was conducted by the committee in Chingmeirong area under Wangkhei AC along with members of Rongmei Youth Club, Chingmeirong Social Welfare Association, Chingmeirong Youth Welfare Association, Ima Panthoibi Meira Paibi Lup, Chinguleima Meira Lup and members of Chingmeirong Singlup, he said.

Antecedents of non local people being checked

He also said that during the survey most of the non locals who are staying in the area were found without genuine identity proof while some were found to be included in the State's electoral roll.

As per the previous resolution of the JCILPS, it has decided to take up necessary action against those who are found without genuine ID proof and those who are found included in the electoral roll, BK Moirangcha added.

He also asserted that the JCILPS would continue to carry out the survey in every corner of the State comprising the 60 ACs.

In their endeavour to protect the indigenous people of the State who have been outnumbered day by day by outsiders, the JCILP is conducting the survey as a part of their move to safeguard the indigenous people and culture, he said.

The co-convenor also said that the reality �the number of non-locals, non-locals without ID proof, non-locals enrolled in electoral roll, would come out after completion of the survey.

Maintaining that the JCILPS volunteers are continuing a check on the non-locals without proper identity proof in buses and other passenger carriers along the two National Highways, the Co-convenor also urged all concerned who come across such non-locals without genuine ID proof to hand them over to the nearest PS.

He added that only voter identity card issued by the Election Commission of India should be considered 'genuine identity proof' and other Identity cards such as domicile or driving licence issued by the Transport Department should not be considered as genuine proof of identity.
