Guwahati, October 11 2014 :
A carnival held recently in Guwahati showcased the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh as it brought all the different tribes of the state at the same platform.
A three-day-long Arunachal Carnival festival was organized in Guwahati under the theme of "Celebrating Oneness" .
The event was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju.
Held under the aegis of Guwahati Arunachal Student Union (GASU), it aimed to bring unity and integrity among students of the north east region.
Artists from various tribes of Arunachal Pradesh including Apatani, Adi, Singpho, Nyeshi and Galo performed their traditional dances in colorful attires.
"We should maintain this kind of unity and brotherhood.
Such Arunachal events should take place in Guwahati and in Arunachal also we celebrate Assamese festivals like Bihu.
In this way we should live together with harmony,' said Rijiju.
During the festival, various competitions were also conducted to showcase the young talents of the state which included a photo exhibition, film festival and cultural competitions.
The major attraction at the venue was the Food Zone where people of the region put up their traditional food stalls.
"We want people to know about our life style, culture and food habits.
We also want to encourage people to be united.
We have over 130 tribes in the state who live together.
Our people who are living here also want to give out a message of peace and unity and we want to encourage the coming generations," said Organizer Chombay Kee.
"People from different tribes like Nyeshi, Adi, Galo and Monpa are studying outside and here in Guwahati also.
So our aim was to promote unity and integrity among our people here.
Also we want to tell our Assamese brothers and sisters to come here and sample our food and culture," added Guwahati Arunachal Students Union president Rinchin.
Events like this not only promote culture and tradition of the region but also help to unite the youth.
