Tamenglong, October 11 2014 :
People in Tamei sub-division are undergoing a period of hardship and uncertainty in seeking health care as there is no doctor available at the sub-divison's PHC.
Angry locals have kept the health centre locked for the last two months after repeated failures to draw the attention of the administration to their miseries and convince them to send a doctor.
Two women have died on the way to seeking health facility in Imphal and another reportedly gave birth at the corridor of the PHC.
Tamei frontal organisations including Zeliangrong Youth Front, Tamei zone, Village Authority Chairmen Council, Tamei Women Wing, Tamei Headquarter Students' Union and Zeliangrong Students' Union Tamei Area have been demanding posting of a doctor at the PHC Tamei for the last three months.
However, it went to the deaf ears of the Secular Progressive Front (SPF)-led government.
In anguish over the indifferent treatment meted out, the agitators had sealed the Tamei PHC since August 11, 2014 and it has completed two months today.
Thereafter, all the activities of the PHC Tamei have been halted till today and the people at Tamei area have suffered untold health problems.
These were revealed to the Hueiyen Lanpao during a visit to the Tamei sub- division.
The PHC Tamei was found with a big lock hanging.
One nurse who was living at the staff quarter told that the agitators had sealed the PHC, not allowing any activity there.
She narrated the hardships faced by the women of Tamei sub- division due to the absence of health care facility.
Disclosing to the Hueiyen Lanpao, the spokesman of the agitators said that they had met the Chief Minister of Manipur, Health Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, local MLA, etc and requested them to post a doctor at the PHC Tamei but it went to deaf ears.
"They replied in positive, but they never sent any doctor.
We have no other choice left, except sealing the PHC.
We will continue the agitation until a doctor is posted.
We will intensify the agitation", stated AB Adin, VACC, Tamei Area.
He disclosed that the people who got sick had to go to 9th Dogra for treatment or took medicine they bought over the counter from pharmacies.
The agitators want to question the state government whether Tamei sub- division is a part of Manipur or not.
Contrary to the election campaign promises/ manifesto they also questioned whether the government is for the people or for MLAs and ministers to draw benefits.
It was informed that one woman had given birth at the corridor of the PHC.
If any person gets sick he has to go to the 9th Dogra for check up or the sick patient has to rush to Imphal or Tamenglong to get treatment facility.
One Ramesh of the 9th Dogra also informed that 15- 20 persons daily come for medical treatment.
He also informed that they help the people of Tamei in every field.
Regarding the bad connectivity, the frontal organisations of the Tamei area appealed to all the contractors who are engaged in constructing road from Tamenglong to Tamei and Tamei to Khangpokpi to maintain work quality and complete the construction works at the earliest.
