RK Maipaksana remembered

RK Maipaksana Memorial Trust celebrated the 90th Birth Anniversary of journalist and political activist RK Maipaksana at a function held at GP Women's college here today.
Former Director of DDK Imphal and writer Sagolsem Indrakumar attended the function as president, while Dr.Kh.
Shamungou, Chairman of State Environment Impact Assessment Authority Manipur delivered the RK Maipaksana Memorial Lecture on the topic "Birds, culture and environment" .
As part of the function, noted playwright and writer Budha Chingtham was conferred the RK Maipaksana Journalist Fellowship 2014 for his contributions in the field of disseminating information to the people of Manipur through the print media.
In his memorial lecture, environmentalist Dr.Shamungou stated out of the 2000 species of birds found in India, around 600 are available in Manipur.
A number of migratory birds also flock to the state every year, he said.
Mentioning the inalienable relations between birds, culture and our environment, Shamungou said that we need to save our environment to save the precious bird species.
In his presidential address, Sagolsem Indrakumar who once worked together with late RK Maipaksana at the AIR Imphal hailed Maipaksana as an intelligent and well-educated person.
A souvenir was also released on the occasion.
