Expressing shock and resentment over the unfortunate incident wherein a well educated 28-year-old Manipuri woman was allegedly dragged out of a Secunderabad-bound train at the Palasa station in Andhra Pradesh and gang-raped by unknown miscreants on August 8, the Women Action for Development (WAD) has appealed the Home Department to investigate the matter seriously by sending a strong investigation team to Andhra Pradesh at the earliest and to punish the culprits.
Saying that it was not the first incident where women from NE States were raped, WAD in a statement, has said that it is high time to sort out amicable mechanisms and measures for the safeguard of NE women in the country.
WAD also appealed the Social Welfare Department to mobilise a Medical team to Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) Kanke, Ranchi without delay so as to investigate and observe the physical and mental status of the victim lady.
It is the right time now, to take up all possible measures before it is too late to stop crimes against women.
The in-time action of humanity and humane motives of the train superintendent Alok Kumar Roy is highly appreciated and treasured by WAD, it added.
