Imphal, May 04 2021:
Amid the restrictions imposed after Greater Imphal area was declared a containment zone for a week, oil pumps in Imphal East and Imphal West district may stop their services due to closure of banks, said sources.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, some of the retail outlets said they are not able to buy fuel and they may be forced to shut services in a day or two.
In Greater Imphal area, there are about 60 oil pumps.
The outlets/oil pumps deposit money in banks to buy the fuel-petrol and diesel.
As the banks are closed after Greater Imphal area was declared a containment zone for a week, they are not able to deposit money to buy the fuel, they said.
The retail outlets said most of the oil pumps are running low on stock and they may be forced to close in a day or two until the banks are operational.
The Government had declared Greater Imphal area a containment zone for one week with effect from April 30 .
The order had stated that oil pumps would be opened as usual, however, banking services were not included in the list of services allowed, they said.
Even though the banking service is not included in the list of permitted activities, the oil pumps in the containment zone may continue their services if they are given the 5-day revolving credit rolling facility by the IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited), they said.
Meanwhile, sources said the PCTC filling station, at Khoyathong, on eof the more popular outlets may close from Thursday.
