REALIZING THE need to prevent teenagers from committing suicides which often occurs after experiencing 'teenage love' but mainly due to lack of understanding and proper guidance on the part of the parents and teachers, Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) has urged the authority concerned for setting up counseling centres in all the institutions of the state.
Issuing a statement in this regard, Keisham Pradipkumar, Convener of MACR, observed that most teenagers felt the intimidating nature of the parents and teachers who prohibit them from falling in love during their teenage life as insulting, and this conflict sometimes unwanted consequences.
Recalling the case of Brington, a student of JNV Khumbong and the recent case of Maibam Milan, a student of Leishangthem Keibung Primary School, who committed suicides after they were tried by their parents and teachers to prevent them from falling prey to 'teenage romance', Pradipkumar noted that the time has come to give proper guidance and counseling to teenagers as far as such 'teenage love' is concern.
As such a "'Psychological Counseling Centre"' needs to be established in every school and "'Life Skill Training"' provided to the students.
Pradipkumar observed that school management authority and staffs should be well equipped to handle such critical issues and consult expert as and when the need arises.
He also appealed to all local cable TV networks to restrain from broadcasting films and video albums which popularizes 'teenage romance' .
